Thanksgiving is not a holiday in Argentina. It is at the beginning of summer here and it was a regular work day. There is a restaurant, Kansas, where they cater to North Americans and have a lot of food we are used to, prepared the way we are used to. On Thanksgiving, they prepare a turkey dinner for us. We needed a reservation, and even with the reservation, we waited several hours to get in. There were a lot of people from the U.S. eating there that day. The dinner was delicious and pretty much like we would get at home, if we went to a restaurant. The big thing missing was cranberry sauce. I like to have a little turkey with my cranberry sauce, so that was big for me. But they even had pecan pie.
We had not seen turkeys in the store until the week before Thanksgiving, but when we did, they were very expensive and small. The largest ones were around 9 Lbs. and cost $450 pesos. There was some money left by other seniors that we used to buy two turkeys and Linda Spallino and I roasted them. Everyone brought traditional Thanksgiving food and we even had cranberry sauce that Elder Nielsen had purchased on a trip to the States.
We reserved the party room at the top of our apartment building. I bought tablecloths and flowers and it looked really festive. It was a challenge roasting the turkey and making gravy and stuffing because we cannot get all the ingredients we are used to. Also, the gas range doesn't maintain a temperature very well and I really had to watch it all the time. But it all turned out delicious, and we decided we did not really need to go to Kansas with so many great cooks in our group.
Christmas, at least, they do celebrate here, of course, but they didn't have things in the stores until about a week before, and they did not decorate streets or homes. There were decorations in the malls, but rather minimal. We bought 2 pesebres (nativities) that were made locally. The one made of draped fabric was made by a lady who has a shop about 6 blocks from our apartment.
Another of our traditions is to make gingerbread houses. I surprised the sisters on Women's Day with their own houses to decorate. I made 5 of them and be bought candy to decorate. This was a huge challenge because we had to go all over town looking for the ingredients to make gingerbread. Dean was such a good sport and very generous and helped me find it all. We had such a fun time, and all the husbands loved eating them after Christmas. I made wassail and we ate crispy gingerbread scraps while we "worked". We made a big mess, but had a ton of fun.
On Christmas Eve, we all got together on the roof of our office building and had a big Asado (BBQ). Terry Spallino, who is a Church Employee in our area office, and a great friend to all of us, is an amazing chef, and he has mastered the art of cooking an asado on a parilla (very hot wood fire). Most buildings here have a parilla and many people are adept at using them. They are in most restaurants, and that is why they have such great steaks. We had all the Senior Missionaries from the Area office and some of the missions too. There were about 5 other couples who are from the U.S. and work with us. Terry bought the meat from a local butcher shop and cooked it to perfection. We had a wonderful evening. The rest of the meal was pot luck and it was delicious.
We discovered a fabulous new dish! It is called Provoleta and is roasted Provolone cheese. Terry put it in this little ceramic plate with rounded holes in it and put it on the fire. When the cheese, with it's great spices, is melted, it is done. He served it with toothpicks and we couldn't get enough. We have purchased our own plate to take home. I make it now in the oven, but it is better on a BBQ.
On Christmas Day, we had 6 young missionaries spend the day with us. They were all allowed to call home, and we had 2 computers set up for them, 1 in each bedroom, so they would have privacy. They had worked out their timing and each spent about an hour with their families. We got to "meet" all of them through skype. Each time a new family was reached, all six of them would sing their mission song to the family. They also met most of our family as we talked to them during the day. I did a traditional "Sidney buffet" (my Mother), with Mom's potato salad, frog's eye salad, roasted beef, pork and chicken and lots of yummy breads to make sandwiches. I made a lot of my traditional cookies and they ate all day long. They also each took a big plate of goodies home with them, and we all had a very Merry Christmas.
We work and play together. Almost every Saturday and all holidays (The Argentines have many holidays.), we find activities around Buenos Aires to do. We go by train, bus or subway and it's always an adventure.
The first thing we learned about dining out in Buenos Aires is that people eat dinner between 9 and 11 p.m.! Most good restaurants don't even open until 8 or 8:30, and they are not full until after 9. These two photos are of one of our favorite restaurants, Rio Alba, just down the street from our apartment. The first photo I took when we arrived at 8:30 p.m. The second photo was taken at 9 p.m., when most people came to eat.
The most popular dish in Argentina is steak. They are well known for their excellent beef. This particular restaurant advertises that their steaks are so tender, they cut them with a spoon. When they bring steaks to your table, they look like a small roast and then they CUT THEM WITH A SPOON, and put them on your plate. They are delicious.
Another favorite dish in Argentina is pizza, but it is very different than the pizza we are used to in the U.S. They usually have a very good crust, and then they have 1/2 to 1 inch of Mozzarella cheese with some toppings on the cheese. You very seldom see any tomato sauce or any other kind of sauce. The toppings are not chopped up. It might be a whole tomato slice or whole pieces of ham and one whole olive on each of 6 slices. The toppings are added after they are cooked, as in these raw onions.

Empanadas and milanesa are staples of most families here. That is what the young missionaries are fed most days at the homes of the members, who so faithfully feed them every day. I have learned to make empanadas with left overs. I buy the wrappers in a package like tortillas and fill them with meat and vegetables. We always have some in the freezer for a quick meal or for lunch.
Desserts are to die for! I ordered a four part dulce de leche (caramel, which is my favorite flavor) and this is what I got. Dean ordered a fruit parfait. They were both delicious. It's good we just stopped for dessert and had not eaten dinner.
Ice cream (helado), can be found on every block, usually two or three shops. Everyone has their favorite. Ice cream is quite expensive, but it is something most people sacrifice to have often. The Senior Missionaries took a day trip on the train to San Isidro. We spent the day in museums, cathedrals and a feria, but it was capped off in the evening at this wonderful ice cream shop famous for their very "tall" chocolate dipped ice cream cones. They had a huge selection of flavors and then they would dip it. Everyone had a drippy mess before they could finish the whole thing, but it was worth it. They were wonderful!
We go to food fairs of one kind or another almost every Saturday. Most of them are at the Hipodrome, which is within walking distance of our apartments. The Wolds are in this photo
and we are all at an International Fair, celebrating the diverse heritage of the people of Buenos Aires. There was food from all over the world. Dean and I actually got sick afterward because we tried too many different things. We did not have food poisoning, just too much. We will be more careful in the future to make up our minds and just try one thing.
If we are missing food from home, there is always KFC, McDonald's, Subway and Burger King. KFC and Burger King taste exactly like at home, but Subway and McDonald's are quite different. The menus are the same, but they use different ingredients. McDonald's uses an oil for frying that I don't care for, and Subway does not use sauces. So every once in awhile, we visit either KFC or Burger King. We found a Burger King that is known as the most "elegant" Burger King in the world! It is an old mansion that has been refurbished and has the original amazing ceilings and moldings from the old house. It has a beautiful split staircase and each room upstairs has an awesome ceiling.
We love the food here. We love to eat at all the different restaurants, and I love to cook with all the fresh ingredients they have here. We buy fruit, vegetables, breads and meat at different shops in our neighborhood every day. They do not use preservatives, so we buy fresh often.
At our mission
farewell, I told the story of Ben Snow, and many people wanted me to write it
down. I said I would put it on our blog, but I am just now getting around to
it. I used the written story by Ben's Mom, Sue, to tell the story, and with her
permission, I will now write it down with many of her own words.

Ben Snow, from Farmington, was serving a mission in Brazil. On February 3,
1995, he and his companion were on a bus returning from a Zone Conference when
a truck loaded with steel re-bar struck the bus with such force that it literally
sheared the front of the bus off. Before boarding the bus, Ben's companion, a
native Brazilian, said, "Something bad is going to happen. I want to go
home." Ben answered "We are." "No", Ben's companion
said, "You don't understand. I want to go home to Sao Paulo." Ben's
reply of "I know, but it will be alright." was said in such a way
that it was confirmed he also knew of the impending danger and that he was
completely at peace with it.

Ben and his companion boarded the bus for the all night ride
back to the city where they were serving. His companion wasn't able to sleep as
they traveled and actually saw the accident happen, while Ben slept peacefully
beside him. The bus was turning left on a bend in the road when a truck
traveling the opposite direction missed the turn and hit the bus. Steel re-bar
from the truck shot through the bus like bullets, killing many of the
passengers, but a shield of protection was miraculously placed around the two
of them. The Brazilian Elder was thrown through the window next to him and
landed on his feet in front of and facing the bus. Ben sat in his seat, still
appearing to be asleep, as though nothing had happened. Ben died of a broken
neck but he was protected, as his body was left whole.

For most of the time, Ben's Mother, Sue Snow, has been at
peace, but in July of 2014, she was struggling. It was going to be Ben's 40th
birthday and she was missing him so much. She prayed fervently for the peace
that she needed to have restored to her. Two days later she received a package
and letter in the mail. One of the missionaries, Elder Julio, who had shared an
apartment with Ben and his companion, happened to be visiting in Brazil in the
town where they had been serving when Ben died. He attended a fast and testimony
meeting where a man expressed his testimony and shared how he had learned of
the Church.

The man had been one of the people helping to clean up after
the fatal accident. He came across a Bible and could not locate the owner, Ben
Snow. He kept the book and read it from time to time. He saw a lot of
references written in the margins that obviously referred to other scriptures,
but they were not books in the Bible. He wondered where the book of “
Moroni" was located. He asked people until he finally was told that it was
a reference from the Book of Mormon. He obtained the book, called the
missionaries, and eventually joined the Church. Elder Julio, who was visiting,
went up to the man after the meeting and told him that he knew who the Bible
belonged to and would be happy to return it to the family.

In the mail, two days after praying for relief, the Snows
received Ben's Bible with the enclosed story. They knew that their prayers had
been heard and answered.

I also know that our prayers are heard and answered. My
husband, Dean, and I had just received our mission call to the South America
South Area office. We were called to be communication specialists working with
social media. We were going to be finding stories about conversions and
miracles in South America to publish on the social media sites. I had been
praying to know how we were ever going to find these stories. Dean and I were
attending the temple for our ward temple day and he had gone early with the
youth and was going to do initiatory work until I arrived and we would meet in
the cafeteria before attending the session.

I waited for him, but he was held up, so I decided to go
ahead and eat and meet him in the session. As I sat down, my good friend, Sue
Snow came through the food line and saw me sitting at a table. She was alone
and she joined me. I told her of our call and what we would be doing. She said,
"I have a story about a conversion and a miracle in South America,"
and she proceeded to tell me Ben's story. She said she had been waiting in the
chapel of the temple that day to go through a session. When it was time to go
into the session, she was prompted to wait for the next one and she followed
the prompting and waited. After the session she went to the cafeteria and met
me. We both knew why we were there that day, at that time.

The Gospel is true, and our loving Heavenly Father hears and
answers our prayers.

The evening began at 5 p.m. When guests came to the church, they were instructed in the
Then the Senior Missionary couples took the groups to the baptismal room, where two missionaries in white taught about baptism by immersion and asked one of the members to bear their testimony. After that they were taken to the various auxiliary rooms, where they were taught by many different people. The young men and young women did an outstanding job telling about what they learned at church and about their activities and achievements. After taking them to all of the rooms, we finished in the Relief Society room, where Dean bore a beautiful testimony to each group after the Relief Society presentation. At the end, they were turned over to the missionaries to give out Books of Mormon and make referral appointments. They also had refreshments. Many non members came and showed a lot of interest in learning more about the Gospel. One man in our ward, who was baptized three weeks ago, brought his wife and twin baby sons. His wife had not wanted anything to do with his new religion, but at the end of the Capilla Abierto, she wanted to learn more. He said it was a miracle.
scenes from long ago. The homes and grounds were just gorgeous and so well kept. One of them even had a large boxwood maze, and flowering trees hundreds of years old. We had a delicious lunch sitting outside across the square from the cathedral. There was a large fair in the square by the cathedral. We bought a stove for our railroad.
Our stake took on the project to paint a school, inside and out. It was quite far from the homes of our ward members and us. We took the train and then walked about 8 blocks. It was amazing! There were hundreds there to help and we were just the morning shift. A whole other group came in the afternoon. There were about 100 missionaries including seniors, young elders and sisters. Everyone had so much fun. President Wu, our Stake President worked alongside everyone else. Also, Terry and Linda Spallino worked all day. Brother Spallino is in charge of temporal affairs in the Area.

Family Home Evening last week was held in the Cathedral that we walk past every day on our way to work. It is where the remains of St. Martin are entombed. The Cathedral is absolutely gorgeous and huge. We arrived early and were able to walk around and take some photos. Below is a photo of some of us who attended, the Nielsen's, Holtkamp's, Andersen's and Roth's. Others sat farther back.
This is our La Boca Chapel, near the mouth of the big river that feeds into the ocean. La
Boca means mouth. Dean taught his first lesson today in the Gospel Principles class for new members and investigators. He did a great job (I think, I am not sure of all he said, but he looked good!)
A few weeks ago I told about the Elder's miracle with finding a young woman who had read the Book of Mormon already and was ready to give up smoking and become a member of the Church. She knew the Book of Mormon was true when she read it.

Elder Johnson, on the right, is going home to Provo this week and is very sad to leave. He bore his testimony in church today and could hardly get through it. But a wonderful parting gift for him today was to perform the baptism of this great young woman. She was so ready to join the fold. She has been coming to church and bearing her testimony. She answers questions like someone who has been a member for many years. After Elder Johnson baptized her, she came out of the water absolutely glowing. What a thrill for all of us to see.
The other set of Elders in our ward have been teaching a young family, and they baptized the 4 children today. It was awesome! There is a girl who will be in Young Women's, a boy who will be a Deacon and a primary aged boy and girl. They were so happy.

The baptism was right after church. We weren't expecting it and the missionaries told everyone during Sunday School. The service was just like at home with the talks on baptism and confirmation, then the baptisms and lots of singing of hymns while they dressed. Then there was a talk from all the auxiliary leaders welcoming them into their various new classes. It was such a joyful meeting. I cried all the way from the opening song, I Am a Child of God, to the last song, Come Little Children. It was so touching. It's wonderful to be on a mission and see the Lord's work move forth throughout the world.
The last Sunday in August was our Area Conference. All of the Members in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay met in our Stake Centers to hear from our leaders. President Gonzalez, our Area President spoke first. And then we heard from two Apostles, Elder Cook and Elder Hale. They all spoke of the importance of families attending Sacrament Meeting together and going to the temple together. It was very inspiring. Our ward is the State Center (above) and we are sitting with several other Senior Missionary couples. The Andersons are from Boise, ID and the Licursis (across aisle) are from Cordova, Argentina. We love them all so much!
We bought a pretty green plant that we were not familiar with
and it wasn't labeled. We transplanted it into a pot on our deck, and a few days later, this gorgeous Gardenia bloomed! We are so excited. We could never grow such an exotic flower at home. It's just in the 50's and 60's here and doesn't feel too humid yet, but it is still the right climate for blooms such as these.

Our last Sunday walk was about 6 blocks from our apartment to the Buenos Aires Botanical Garden. What a treasure we found. It looks like a jungle and it's still winter! And it's free!

There were several of these beautiful greenhouses and then the park was divided into different parts of the world. There was a section for Germany, England, France, China, The America's and many others. It featured waterfalls, bridges,
tons of statues, and benches everywhere to sit and enjoy. The pathways were all over the place and made of rocks, dirt, cement, cobblestones, etc. It was enchanting. We are so excited to see it when it is in bloom, which should be within a month or so.
We feel so blessed to be centrally located in the city. We are within walking distance to so many beautiful attractions and parks. It is fun to explore. We never tire of it. We love Argentina!
When we arrived at church Sunday, the missionaries were anxious to tell us about their miracle during the week. Two Elders were walking along the street and passed a young woman on a bench. One of them felt inspired to speak to her. They went back and he thought, "No, it was nothing" and they continued on their way. Then both of them had the impression they should go back and speak to her. They went back and saw that she was smoking and just assumed she wouldn't be interested. They continued on, and this time they both had a very strong impression to go back and speak to her. They did, and she said she would love to talk to them. They made an appointment to visit her in her home. They realized that she didn't live in their area, and they referred her to the Elders in the La Boca Ward (our ward).

Our Elders knocked on her door the next day and she welcomed them. When they told her of the Book of Mormon and offered her a copy, she said that she already had one. Someone had thrown it away and she had seen it in a box and picked it up AND READ IT! She had a testimony that it was true and she was ready to quit smoking and wanted to be baptized! She came to church Sunday and attended our Gospel Principles class. She spoke up many times during the lesson and sounded like she had been a member for years. It was amazing how much she knew and felt about the Gospel. It was a huge testimony builder for all of us and a reminder that we must always listen to the Spirit, and act upon it.

After the lesson, our Bishop called Dean to teach the Gospel Principles class and he gladly accepted. We had about 30 people in class that day. The missionaries are very successful in our area. He also asked us to organize, with the Wallaces and the other ward, a missionary open house.
The building above is a school down the street from the Bellgrano Chapel. The architecture is wonderful, with faces all around the building. The missionaries call it Hogwarts of Bellgrano. The photos below are inside the Institute building next to the Chapel. It is a gorgeous old home that has been repurposed as a school. The classrooms are in the various rooms and there is a beautiful courtyard where they have BBQ's. The area missionaries celebrated the Fourth of July with a BBQ here.
We go to "work" every day in downtown Buenos Aires. After riding the subway for about 20 minutes, we walk through the plaza of the "pink house" and then walk another 2 blocks. The pink house is like our white house, where the President of Argentina, Christina, works each day. It is not her residence, but a big government building. The plaza in front is very beautiful, but there are a lot of police and many demonstrations there. We are told to stay away when there are demonstrators around. We encountered a lot of demonstrators yesterday as we were leaving, but there was no place to go but through the crowd. The police had everything else blocked off. It was very peaceful.

Our office is one of two. The area office is presently being remodeled, and they have all of the staff split into two offices. The other office is about 10 minutes by subway in the
other direction. We will work in both, because the publishing staff that we work with is in one, and the only available desks are in the other. We will go to meetings and such at the other office, but work in the downtown location. It's good we are working in digital communications. We can do it anywhere remotely. We have worked from home a few days this week because we have been waiting for people to show up at our apartment to deliver or fix.
The men that we are working with are wonderful. They speak excellent English for me and they have been so kind to help us with anything we need. Fernando left his office to take us downtown and introduce us around. He made sure we knew the way, and showed us a great place to eat on the way. It was then that we realized he had an ulterior motive. His darling wife works in our office and was waiting to have lunch with us.
Dean and I sit side by side at desks across from Elder and Sister Wallace from Idaho Falls. They are the area auditors and they travel a lot. They check out a car each weekend and they take us to church. There isn't a subway going close to our chapel. Each of the eight senior missionary couples is assigned to a different ward. We have become members of the La Boca Ward. La Boca means "the mouth" and it is near the mouth of the huge river where it feeds into the ocean.
This is our chapel. The Wallace's ward meets in the same building and starts 1/2 hour before ours. They have Priesthood and Relief Society first and we have Sacrament Meeting first. They wait for us to take us home. Our first week was so sweet. Everyone welcomed us so warmly! One dear sister came up to me after Sacrament meeting and said she is an English teacher and will be happy to translate for me. When I came out of Gospel Principles, she was there to take me to Relief Society. I was able to understand more than I expected and it was a very spiritual day. Dean is amazing with his language skills and has taken such great care of us. He has arranged so many things from Internet to finance.I'm so proud of him.Anne Wiesehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18152060529864261135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2359764934835491888.post-69085983562109077992015-08-22T10:22:00.000-07:002015-09-16T09:02:44.688-07:00WE'RE HERE!

The night before we left was both fun and difficult. It was so hard to say goodbye to them all. Jonathan hosted a fun family dinner for all of us at Squatter's. We really missed Matthew and Trisha's family.

So here are all of our bags dropped in our cute little apartment. We were expecting much smaller than we have. Our home has two bedrooms, two full baths, a kitchen and a living/dining room. There is a warehouse filled with household items left by previous missionaries and they fill up the apartments with what is at hand. It is kind of a mish mash of things that don't match, but we have been working to solve that. Wait until you see the finished product.

The photo below is the view we have from our living room window, which goes out to a balcony. We love the view. We back up to a large convention center that is very beautiful (in front). We are a few blocks from a gorgeous park that is 3 miles long. It has trails, gazebos, an art museum , bridges,
and many other things. We are also near a horse racing track and a polo field. There is a huge open market once a month that just happened to be going on our first weekend. It had so many wonderful things to eat! Everywhere we turn, there is dulce de leche, CARAMEL! It is my favorite flavor in the world, and I think I have died and gone to heaven. And all the pastries are amazing. Linda Hoffman told me about them, but I really had no idea. There are at least 2 bakeries on each block. And in between each bakery there is an ice cream shop. It's good we have to walk a lot.Anne Wiesehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18152060529864261135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2359764934835491888.post-14073418241559023002015-08-05T20:43:00.000-07:002015-09-16T09:02:59.012-07:00GOOD FRIENDS

A few weeks ago we found out that Terry and Linda Hale were going to be in the MTC at the same time as we were. Terry and Dean were best friends as little boys and teenagers, living just 7 houses apart on 30th St. in Ogden. Linda and Terry live in Idaho Falls and we see them occasionally for reunions, but keep close on Facebook. A few years ago they served a mission in Salt Lake City at the Family History Center. They loved it so much, they decided to do it again. We have had such a wonderful time together in the MTC. We were put in different Districts, but spend most of the rest of our time together, including eating and evenings. Linda
and I have always known about many of their boyhood adventures, but we are really getting an earful now! They should have been in a lot of trouble for all the pranks they pulled, but they seldom got caught.
It's hard to believe we are finally here in the MTC in Provo, UT. What a wonderful place! There are 130 Senior Missionaries here this week, many more than the average 60. We are going to all parts of the world and it is so fun to talk to all of the others and hear about their mission. Everyone is just as excited about their mission as we are. Last evening we had an awesome Devotional. President Russell M. Nelson came to speak to us. It was the first time he has given a talk since he was set apart as the President of the Council of The Twelve. Dean and I were privileged to sing in the choir with 1100 young people. We sang "Be Still My Soul", which was chosen as a song of comfort for the new President with so many burdens on his shoulders. It was a thrill to sing to him. He gave us an inspired talk full of great advice for missionaries at this time. Several things he said spoke to me. He said, "The doctrine of Christ should be engraved on our hearts." He also said, "If you have only one convert on your mission, I would hope it would be yourself."
We are eating like we will never see food again!!! Tonight, as we stood in line for our dinner, (chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and tomato basil soup), there were two young elders in front of us heading to Tokyo, Japan. They were in line for the second time to get a full plate again. They said they had heard that the helpings of food in Japan were not as big and they needed to store it up. Watching how much many of the young Elders eat often makes me lose my appetite. But today is my birthday and it was also ice cream day. They had huge pots of hot caramel and hot fudge and many other toppings. I was pretty sure it was for my birthday, so I had a little ice cream with my caramel, which is my favorite flavor of anything! They sang happy birthday to me everywhere I went today, (5 times), but it was pretty awesome when they did it in the cafeteria. We all eat together, all 2400 of us!
Our lessons and classes are amazing and we have great teachers with giant testimonies. We love them. We have 16 Seniors in our district and already love them all. We role play all day. We thought it would be uncomfortable, but it's not. It strengthens our testimonies as we have so many opportunities to testify of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I will never tire of hearing the testimony of my dear companion. He has already grown so much and it's wonderful to see. We are so happy here!Anne Wiesehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18152060529864261135noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2359764934835491888.post-75743353236340650302015-07-25T16:22:00.000-07:002015-09-16T09:03:34.799-07:00IT BEGAN IN DECEMBERAround the middle of December 2014, Dean and I were both inspired to commit to go on a mission. For the last few years, we had planned on going, but only after we sold the house, bought another house, remodeled the new house, put in our garden railroad in the back yard, etc. etc. etc. We were both brought to the realizations that we needed to re-arrange our priorities and just GO. We decided that we would plan the mission and let everything else fall where it might. It would all work out. We told the Bishop we were ready to go. He told us that day that our entire countenances had changed and that we radiated the Spirit of The Lord. I don't know how we looked, but we felt really good and we knew we were making the right decision.

We requested a Spanish speaking mission outside the U. S. We waited six and a half weeks for our call. Several week into the wait, we were contacted by the Communications Dept. at Church Headquarters and asked if we would be interested in serving in an area office, either Buenos Aires, Guatamala City, or Santo Domingo. We were excited to say yes, and we picked Buenos Aires. Elder Lassatter said they would ask for us and that it would have to be acceptable to Elders Holland and Bednar because they were over the Communications Dept. It happened to be around conference time, so they were very busy and it took awhile. But finally, we were called to the South America South Area to serve as International Digital Communications Specialists. WHAT? It sounded pretty fancy, but as we started to train, we found out that we would be dealing with social media, (kind of a funny calling for old people).

We learned that The Church has an awesome social media program. They are one of the easiest to search in the world. There are many Facebook and Twitter accounts. Most of the General Authorities have a Facebook page and many are on Twitter. Each country has a web page and the middle 8 pages of the Liahona are specific to each area. Most of the feeds for these sites comes from Salt Lake. The Brethren have realized that there is not a big country presence on these sites for all the countries outside the US. So they have asked to have a couple called to each area outside the US to help facilitate putting a better local look to these social websites. That's us. We will be the 2nd couple to go out, so we are pioneers. They told us that our Area President, President Walter Gonzales, is very on board with this new program.

So now we have our call and we are to report to the MTC in Provo on August 3, 2015 and fly to Buenos Aires on August 13, 2015. Suddenly everything fell into place. We found wonderful buyers for our home, taking possession on July 20th. We sold a lot of furniture, sent a lot of things to Deseret Industries, took many trips to the dump, and it all worked out. We put our car and truck up for sale on KSL.com and after a few weeks, when we started to worry a little, we got a call from Larry H. Miller Dealership in Bountiful. They wanted to see our vehicles. We took them in and they offered us what we had been asking for them. They gave us our license plates and a big check and we were without a ride! I called my brother, Brian, and he came and picked us up and generously gave us the use of his truck until we leave.

We had 2 1/2 weeks between moving and going to the MTC. We were approached by our ward members down the street, the Hafen's about "house sitting" for them. They were taking their entire family of 9 to China for 3 weeks, the very same weeks we were going to be homeless. What a blessing! We have been in their home for a week and a half now and we are so comfortable and rested from our move. We take care of their cat, Maow, 2 rabbits, 1 guinea pig, a goldfish, a beta fish, two large aquariums and various plants. They, in turn, have provided us a beautiful home with a pool we can use and a beautiful setting in which to prepare our farewell talks and study for our big adventure.

We have been blessed in so many ways. It has all worked out so well! All we had to do was make our mission the first priority and The Lord took care of the rest. We have sold everything or stored it in a warehouse. We don't have any debt or any obligations. The hardest part, so far, was saying goodbye to our dear doggie, Humphrey. He has been adopted by a very loving family who have another Shi Tsu the same age and coloring as Humphrey. They loved each other right away, and he seems very happy with his new family. It almost broke our hearts. We still need to say goodbye to our family, our kids and beloved grandchildren. That will be hard. But we have been promised that if we serve a mission, our families will be blessed. We are counting on it.

Tomorrow we are speaking in Church and then only 1 week to go. We are so excited and ready!Anne Wiesehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18152060529864261135noreply@blogger.com1United States40.446947059600483 -113.20312516.138110059600482 -154.511719 64.755784059600487 -71.894531
